touch - for Percussion Sextet (2018)

Duration: 6’05’’
Program Note:
Touch is originally a piece for percussion sextet, written and premiered in 2018. The piece utilizes about 55 percussion instruments in total. The theme of Touch is not only realized in its musical ideas, but is also expressed in the way performers physically touch the instruments. At the end of the piece, Percussionist VI rubs a singing bowl continuously while passing by each other percussionist until arriving at Percussionist I, then hitting his metal piece (the instrument which starts the piece) while their motions and sounds are stopped one by one as if “touched to be muted”.

TOUCH - Recital (2019)

Duration: 46’32’’
I programmed this piece into my graduation recital in 2019, re-imagining it as the structural core of the performance and staging it as a performance in the round. It is treated to the processes of repetition, assimilation, integration, disintegration, and segregation while moving freely between clear borders and gradual transitions with four other pieces/ performing stations which I also composed. In this way, all pieces are unified as one, but time and space have been reconstructed in between.
