the bee is present - for Bass Flute, Bassoon, Violin, Cello and BEE (2022)/ 以毒攻毒
Duration: 5'21''
Program Note:
how did fear consume you?
The ideal performance circumstance for this piece is to create an event by releasing a bee into the performance space right before it starts. Music serves as the structural framework and a smooth surface, waiting to interrupted by the motif of bee (buzzing), while the sounds of the performers and audience interacting with the bee are meant to be integral to the piece.
If not possible, telling the audience that “there is a bee in the room” ahead of the performance to plant this idea of disturbance and instability of the environment psychologically in their minds is also an acceptable alternative.
