Corrosion - for Solo Bass Clarinet (2017)
Duration: 6'37''
Program Note:
In solo piece Corrosion, I try to build a textural sound sculpture horizontally and slowly “corrode” it by using certain timbre and gesture as the agent until it totally transforms to another type of textural sculpture, I was fascinated by all intermediate states - in geography, in body, in society, in spirit. Corrosion and Contraction are two of the series of works. I also quoted Nirvana for the guitar-like groove to create the surface motion of different layers.
Corrosion - for Installation (2016)
One piece of the installation quartet that use instrument parts such as string instruments and a deconstructed piano are a group of works I created during the 2016 Summer Residency and Exhibition at the New York School of Visual Arts. They visualize sonic space and composition ideas such as texture, and filter to illustrate the interaction of music with space, time and existence.
